The European School Ljubljana, the only school in Slovenia implementing the European Schools international programme, was established in January 2018 by the Government of the Republic of Slovenia. It is run as a part of the Ljubljana School Centre with 100 years of tradition.
In the 2018/2019 school year the European School Ljubljana implemented the programme in two language sections, Slovenian and English sections.
Education at the European School Ljubljana is conducted in a culturally and linguistically rich environment ensuring international recognition and a smooth transition to national education systems and other European Schools in the European Union.
A regular quality assessment performed by the national and European inspectors assures high quality schooling.
The European School Ljubljana programme is designed in a way that enables pupils a continuous schooling from the age of 6 to 18. Pupils finish education with the European Baccalaureate (EB) ensuring high standards of knowledge and enrolment to any university in the European Union.
The European School Ljubljana differs from other international schools operating in Slovenia in its in-depth learning of foreign languages. Part of our programme will be run in the pupil's first foreign language (English, French or German) already from the first year of the primary level.
The development of every pupil's potentials will be individually monitored.
OUR VALUES:
WHAT WE OFFER:
European School Ljubljana is a proud member of the European School family, which is made up of 35.000 students altogether. While our students come from various countries and continents, we all share common values.
Each student is driven by their curiosity, which guides them to unveil the secrets of the unexplored. Their explosive creativity leads them down paths towards sometimes ancient truths, but mostly new revelations.
However, each student is merely an island in a rough sea, and only together can we build bridges of connection and look respectfully beyond the horizon towards new destinations and journeys.
The knowledge we gain in life launches us on these most adventurous and breath taking trajectories and leads us towards unexpected destinations. The things we learn along the way can never be taken from us, and enrich our lives day by day.
I am sure our students will grow to be responsible citizens with a lifelong love of learning and an unshakable belief of our common European future.

Head Teacher
Our school is located within Šolski Center Ljubljana. With our facilities sitting in the center of the city, our students have access to a wide array of resources, from museums and public libraries to sports facilities and public parks.
Our classrooms are clustered together in their own wing of the school. This year, renovations opened four new classrooms for our students as well as our own library. Our sports lessons and some school wide activities take place in the school’s gymnasium, and our lunch and snacks are taken inside the school’s dining room. When it comes to technology, our students have access to a mobile computer lab.
Outside the school’s walls, our students enjoy their recreation time on our playground. In case of rain or inclement weather, our students have access to a variety of games and toys for use within the classroom.
During the 2023/24 school year, the European School Ljubljana secondary classes are being held at a new location: Tržaška Cesta 118. The new location is not far from the previous one; it is just a few bus stops toward Vič along LPP Line 6.

The enrolment period for the first year of primary school will start in February. For higher grades, applications are collected in February but the actual enrolment is only possible after the student has completed their previous school year. If there are any available openings left in classes after the enrolment procedure or after the applications have been collected, enrolment will be possible until they are filled.
The first P1 and P2 students enrolled at the European School Ljubljana in September 2018. In the school year 2019/2020, we successfully established all of the Primary school levels (P1 - P5). In 2020/2021, we opened the Secondary school levels S1, S2, and S3, in 2021/2022 S4 level, in the next school year S5, in 2023/2024 level S6 and this year S7.
The lessons are taught in two separate language sections, Slovene and English. This means that the language of instruction in the Slovene section will be Slovene and English in the English section. In addition, there are lessons taught in foreign languages.
Most classes are taught separately. However, in some activities students join regardless of their language section. A bilingual instruction and support are given in joined subjects, for example Recreation, Sports, Excursions, Workshops etc.
