Physical education holds a unique and pivotal role within the educational framework at ESLJ. Its exceptional potential to shape and influence students' behaviour and personality makes it a critical component of the curriculum. The primary aim of physical education at ESLJ is to foster comprehensive development in skills, knowledge, competencies, and abilities. The objectives of this subject include maintaining good health, providing opportunities for meaningful leisure activities, cultivating a positive self-image, enhancing social skills, and enabling students to actively contribute to school life. The structured rules of sports, along with purposeful exercises and games, are designed to prevent health issues and offer movement experiences that hold significant educational value. Above all, the ultimate goal of physical education is to instill and nurture a lifelong interest in sports, equipping students with the essential skills and knowledge.
Physical education classes at ESLJ are conducted in mixed groups, comprising students from both language sections. Sports teacher strive to deliver engaging and varied lessons, employing differential measures to support the development of both weaker and stronger students.
Due to the limited availability of sports hall space, exacerbated by the growing number of students, some physical education classes are held at the Sabljaški klub Ljubljana. Physical education at ESLJ extends beyond the compulsory curriculum, encompassing extra-curricular activities such as class trips, school competitions, and various events.
