Symmetry in Nature

With S1S and S1E, we embarked on an engaging art project as part of the Erasmus theme, focusing on geometry. We explored symmetry in insects, observing how their bodies reflect along an axis of symmetry.

We began by selecting a drawing of an insect and enlarging it using a grid, which allowed us to accurately transfer the shapes to a larger scale. Next, we turned our attention to colouring. We chose complementary colours and used different shades to colour both the insect and its background. This not only highlighted the symmetry but also allowed us to explore the effects of colour contrasts.

The project helped the children develop both their artistic and mathematical skills, while also encouraging a closer observation of nature.
